Choosing the Correct Size of Sunglasses

It’s not so simple to find the right size of sunglasses when you want to buy a new pair, but this article will help you to take all the needed measurements correctly and select the right spectacle and lens material to suit your needs, and provide a perfect fit! Here are three easy methods to do it correctly:

Method 1. Take measurement of your face

Measure your face from cheekbone to cheekbone. Use a ruler or a measuring tape to know the distance between temples. Carefully place the ruler at the top of your cheekbone, below eye level, and note this important number.

Measure jawline to define your face shape. Use a tape measure and measure from one end of your jawbone to the other (around the face). Write down this number, it will help you to define your face type and choose the right frame.

Measure your face length. Start measuring from the hairline down to the chin’s bottom. This number will be helpful when defining the needed lens height ideal for your face.

Measure the width of your forehead. Just take this measurement from one side of the forehead to the other. With the cheekbone number, this measurement will provide you with the correct frame width for your face.

Use your old frame to get the right size. You can easily find three numbers on the inner side of the temple. Usually, the first number is the lens size, the second is the bridge size, and the last is the temple length.

Measure your old sunnies. Even if you cannot find numbers on your current pair of sunglasses, do not be upset! Take a ruler or a measurement tape and measure the frame horizontally. Also, measure the temple arm to know its length.

Measure your face with a credit card. If you cannot find a measuring tape or a ruler, this isn’t a problem at all. Most cards have almost the same size as a standard lens. Take a mirror and hold the credit card’s edge under your eyebrow and against your nose bridge. Then see where the other edge of the card ends: if it ends approximately with the end of your eye, you need a standard size. If the card extends beyond the eye’s end, look for a smaller size; and if the card doesn’t reach the eye’s end, pay attention to a larger size.

Method 3. Choose a frame to suit your face
